Battery in Concord, CA

A battery rarely fails without warning.

Technician testing a car battery with a digital multimeter

Your battery stores electrical energy to start the engine and powers the electronics when the engine is off. Inside, lead plates sit in an acid electrolyte, and every charge and discharge cycle wears them a little. Heat speeds up that wear, which is why batteries in hot climates often do not last as long as drivers expect.

Most batteries live under the hood, but some manufacturers mount them in the trunk, under a seat or behind a fender liner, which can make replacement more involved than it looks.

Signs of a weak battery

  • Slow cranking, especially on cooler mornings
  • Dim headlights or interior lights at start-up
  • A battery warning light or electrical glitches
  • White or green corrosion on the terminals
  • A swollen or leaking battery case

What our battery service includes

We load-test the battery, clean and tighten the terminals, and check the alternator's charging output and the starter's current draw. If a battery keeps going dead, we test for a parasitic drain, a component that keeps pulling power after the car is shut off.

When a replacement is needed, we install a battery that matches your vehicle's size, cold-cranking amps and technology. Many newer cars with start-stop systems use AGM or EFB batteries and may need the new battery registered with the vehicle computer so it charges correctly.

Driving in Concord and Contra Costa County

Concord's hot summers are hard on batteries. Heat damage done in July and August often shows up as a no-start in the fall, so a battery test before cooler weather is worth the few minutes it takes.

Questions about battery

How long does a car battery last?

Many last three to five years, but heat, short trips and electrical load can shorten that. Testing is the only reliable way to know.

Why does my new battery keep dying?

A dead battery that keeps coming back usually points to a charging problem or a parasitic drain. We test both.
